Layers window, click
button, select "Palette Options"

Layer
Mask
- Load image to use
as background layer
- Create a new layer
- Hide background layer
- Select gradient tool and fill Layer 1
with gradient (or paste other image into new layer)
- Click "Add layer mask" icon in Layers
window
- Select Brush tool and show background
layer, select Layer mask thumbnail
- Paint on mask layer of Layer 1 to
reveal background layer's image
- Shift + click Layer mask thumbnail to
hide mask

Adjustment Layers
An Adjustment Layer makes
color and tonal adjustments to all underlying layers.

Pencil
- Pencil Width = 4
- Stroke Pressure = 8
- Paper Brightness = 25
- Duplicate background layer. Name it
"Fresco"
- Apply Filter | Artistic | Fresco
- Brush Size = 2
- Brush Detail = 8
- Texture = 1
- Set opacity of layers: Fresco 35%,
Pencil 50%, Cutout 100%
- Arrange layers: Fresco, Pencil, Cutout
(from top to bottom)
- Delete background layer
Woodcut
- Duplicate the background layer
- Apply Filter | Other | High Pass
(Radius 2.5 pixels)
- Use Image | Adjustments | Desaturate
- Use Image | Adjustments | Posterize
(Levels = 2)
- Change layer's blend mode to Multiple
- Make the background layer active and
apply Filter | Blur | Gaussian Blur (Radius = 7 pixels)
- Flatten the image

white area to color area)
Fragmented Type
- Create a new file and fill it with a
dark color
- Use the Type tool to type some text in
white or yellow
- Flatten the image
- Use Filter | Brush Strokes | Spatter
- Spray Radius = 10
- Smoothness = 5
- Apply Edit | Fade Spatter. Opacity =
50%

GIF
Transparency
- Select File | Save
For Web
- Set Color reduction
algorithm to Adaptive
- Select a color in
the Color Table
- Click on the
checkerboard icon "Maps selected colors to Transparent"

Replace Color
- Select Image |

- Set

- Use eyedroppers to add or subtract

How
to Add a Border to a Picture in Photoshop
- Start Photoshop and open the image
that you want to add a border to.
- To create a border around the entire
picture, open the Select menu and choose Select All. To create a
border around a certain section, use the Selection tool in the
toolbar and select the area you want.
- From the Select menu, choose Modify
and then Border. In the dialog box, choose the pixel size of
your border.
- Locate the color palette on the
left-hand side of the screen. Click on the top square and select
a border color from the palette. Click OK.
- Select Fill from the Edit menu. In the
dialog box, choose the options to apply to the border.
- Click OK to view the border. If the
results aren't what you want, select Undo from the Edit menu to
remove the fill, then try again.
- Use the Save As command in the File
menu to save the new picture.
