Easter Eggs

Liquid Sky - Ctrl key + Help | About Photoshop

Merlin - Alt key + Layers window, click   button, select "Palette Options"


Layer Mask

  1. Load image to use as background layer
  2. Create a new layer
  3. Hide background layer
  4. Select gradient tool and fill Layer 1 with gradient (or paste other image into new layer)
  5. Click "Add layer mask" icon in Layers window
  6. Select Brush tool and show background layer, select Layer mask thumbnail
  7. Paint on mask layer of Layer 1 to reveal background layer's image
  8. Shift + click Layer mask thumbnail to hide mask


Adjustment Layers

An Adjustment Layer makes color and tonal adjustments to all underlying layers.

Hold down Shift key when pasting to paste in exact center of image.
Hold down Alt key when dragging a guide to switch from horizontal to vertical.


Select Inverse - Collage

  1. Magic Wand Tool (W)
  2. Click in white area around image
  3. Select | Inverse (Shift + Ctrl + I)
  4. Image is now selected. Copy into clipboard.
  5. Paste as a new layer in other image.


Channel Glow

  1. Select Red Channel
  2. Ctrl + A (select all)
  3. Edit | Transform | Rotate
  4. W 90%,  H 90%
  5. Move Tool (V)
  6. Apply the transformation
  7. Select Green Channel
  8. Edit | Transform | Rotate
  9. W 110%,  H 110%
  10. Move Tool (V)
  11. Apply the transformation

Pastels

  1. Duplicate background layer. Name it "Cutout"
  2. Apply Filter | Artistic | Cutout
    1. No. of Levels = 4
    2. Edge Simplicity = 4
    3. Edge Fidelity = 2
  3. Duplicate background layer. Name it "Pencil"
  4. Apply Filter | Artistic | Colored Pencil
    1. Pencil Width = 4
    2. Stroke Pressure = 8
    3. Paper Brightness = 25
  5. Duplicate background layer. Name it "Fresco"
  6. Apply Filter | Artistic | Fresco
    1. Brush Size = 2
    2. Brush Detail = 8
    3. Texture = 1
  7. Set opacity of layers: Fresco 35%, Pencil 50%, Cutout 100%
  8. Arrange layers: Fresco, Pencil, Cutout (from top to bottom)
  9. Delete background layer

Woodcut

  1. Duplicate the background layer
  2. Apply Filter | Other | High Pass (Radius 2.5 pixels)
  3. Use Image | Adjustments | Desaturate
  4. Use Image | Adjustments | Posterize (Levels = 2)
  5. Change layer's blend mode to Multiple
  6. Make the background layer active and apply Filter | Blur | Gaussian Blur (Radius = 7 pixels)
  7. Flatten the image
  8. Use Image | Adjustments | Brightness/Contrast and increase both by 25
  9. Select All and use Image | Adjustments | Hue/Saturation (Saturation = 70)

Glazed

  1. Apply Filter | Sketch | Chrome
    1. Detail = 4
    2. Smoothness = 7
  2. Use Edit | Fade Chrome...
    1. Mode = Color Burn or Soft Light
    2. Opacity = 70%

Saturation

  1. Select All.
  2. Use Image | Adjustments | Desaturate
  3. Click the Eraser tool and check Erase to History
  4. Erase over the areas to bring back color
  5. Lower opacity to bring back less color
  6. Use Smudge tool with Mode set to Saturation to remove color from an area (smudge from black and white area to color area)

 

 

 

 


Fragmented Type

  1. Create a new file and fill it with a dark color
  2. Use the Type tool to type some text in white or yellow
  3. Flatten the image
  4. Use Filter | Brush Strokes | Spatter
    1. Spray Radius = 10
    2. Smoothness = 5
  5. Apply Edit | Fade Spatter. Opacity = 50%


GIF Transparency

  1. Select File | Save For Web
  2. Set Color reduction algorithm to Adaptive
  3. Select a color in the Color Table
  4. Click on the checkerboard icon "Maps selected colors to Transparent"


Replace Color

  1. Select Image | Adjustments | Replace Color...
  2. Set Fuzziness to maximum value
  3. Use eyedroppers to add or subtract colors
  4. Adjust Hue slider to change colors

 


How to Add a Border to a Picture in Photoshop

  1. Start Photoshop and open the image that you want to add a border to.
  2. To create a border around the entire picture, open the Select menu and choose Select All. To create a border around a certain section, use the Selection tool in the toolbar and select the area you want.
  3. From the Select menu, choose Modify and then Border. In the dialog box, choose the pixel size of your border.
  4. Locate the color palette on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on the top square and select a border color from the palette. Click OK.
  5. Select Fill from the Edit menu. In the dialog box, choose the options to apply to the border.
  6. Click OK to view the border. If the results aren't what you want, select Undo from the Edit menu to remove the fill, then try again.
  7. Use the Save As command in the File menu to save the new picture.
